Ballet Int / Advanced (with Pointe)
Ballet or “technique” classes (for students age 6 and up) are the core foundation at Interpretations Dance Academy for all styles of dance. They focus on developing a solid ballet technique with emphasis on understanding correct body placement, proper use of turn out, coordination of the upper body (epaulement), and use of arms (port de bras). Interpretations Dance Academy exposes students to aspects of traditional Vaganova (Russian), Cecchetti (Italian), and American techniques. Class begins with work at the barre to build strength and coordination, followed by center exercises, culminating in a grand allegro combination or variation. Clear explanations of exercises and theory help students use the ballet vocabulary in a simple, practical way that leads to increased technical understanding, healthy physical development, and lifelong enjoyment.
Students who are on pointe will participate in this class in pointe their shoes.
It is not uncommon for students to participate in the same level for 2 years.
Attire: Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers and hair in a bun. No skirts or lyrical shoes permitted.
Ballet Int/Adv and Variations
Interpretations Dance Academy is thrilled to bring back our summer variations class! A variation is a classical ballet solo, referred to as a “pas seul” meaning to dance alone. These variations are performed by world renowned ballet companies, by soloists and principal dancers. They are also performed in prestigious ballet competitions such as Youth America Grand Prix, World Ballet Competition, and Prix de Lausanne to name a few.
Variations studied will be from different historic eras to the contemporary pointe of today and will be, but not limited to, Paquita, Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, and Wayne McGregor’s Chroma.
At the end of the summer session, dancers will have the opportunity to perform a variation of their choosing for the class and Zoom audience. Class size is limited. Variations class can be taken on or off pointe.
This class is open to all students who are currently enrolled at Interpretations Dance Academy in a Level 3 or higher. Our open adult class students as well as intermediate/advanced students not enrolled at IDA are welcome to register.
